Erik Borgir
Cellist
The son of Norwegian musicians, he spent his childhood in the United States. After studying music and biology in Ohio (Steven Doane), Boston (David Wells), and Houston, Texas, where he was assistant to Prof. Shirley Trepel for a class at the conservatory, he was selected by the International Institute of Education for a concert tour in Europe. In 1991 he moved to Germany. Chamber music and New Music are prominent among his activities. Since 1995 he has played in the Emanon Trio, with which he has won various prizes, including a first prize at the Internationaler Johannes- Brahms-Wettbewerb in Austria. That was followed by concerts in many of Germany’s large halls. With the Ensemble VARIANTI he performed as cellist in numerous premieres in Germany and abroad as well as radio and CD productions. He is a founding member of the ensemble ascolta. He has been a regular guest of the Ensemble Modern and the Ensemble Resonanz. Erik Borgir is solo cellist of the Bayerisches Kammerorchester. In 2005 he participated in Die Süße unserer traurigen Kindheit and in 2006 in fremd at the Forum Neues Musiktheater.
