  André de Ridder
Conductor

André de Ridder grew up in Berlin and then attended the music academies in Vienna and London where he studied with Leopold Hager and Sir Colin Davies among others. After completing his studies he was appointed Young Conductor in Association to the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra under chief conductor Marin Alsop who also invited him to California in the summer of 2004 to her Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music. Until February 2006 André de Ridder held the post of Assistant Conductor with the Hallé Orchestra in Manchester and is scheduled to appear regularly with the orchestra in the coming years. The originality of his artistic profile can be seen in his projects from the current and past season, such as the premiere of the Fassbinder opera Die bitteren Tränen der Petra von Kant as season opener for the English National Opera, followed by the invitation to conduct Le nozze di Figaro there as well during the 2006/2007 season; a tour with the London Sinfonietta with Bill Viola’s video accompaniment to Edgar Varčse’s Deserts; the development of Dvorak’s Symphony No. 7 on gut strings with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment; and repeat appearances in the Music of Today series of the Philharmonia Orchestra in London’s Royal Festival Hall. De Ridder has already worked with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the BBC orchestras on numerous occasions. Owing to his work in Great Britain the Royal Philharmonic Society recently nominated him for the Young Artist of the Year Award. In August of 2006 he made his debut with the BBC Proms. At the Komische Oper in Berlin in June 2006 he conducted Moritz Eggert’s Die Tiefe des Raums, an oratorio created on the occasion of the World Cup soccer championship in Germany. He will make guest appearances for this first time this season with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the Radiosinfonieorchester Stuttgart, and will tour with the Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Halle. In 2006 André de Ridder conducted the German Premiere of the Video Opera An Index of Metals by Fausto Romitelli at the Forum Neues Musiktheater on the occasion of the ISCM World New Music Festival 2006.
