“Can choreography and human language be combined?”
The current dance project explores body images and changing perception in the digital age. The possibilities of computer-aided technology make it possible to make choreography audible and visible in new ways; the bodies becomes the material of an overall design process. They are the impulse behind every use of media, and that ensures they remain human and live.

The focus of the development work is on new ways to combine choreography and human language. The possibilities of video motion tracking enable the dances to control synthetic linguistic and sound articulations by their movements. At the same time they transform the visualized texts into moving, floating images.

Palindrome's interest is in interactivity. By means of a special computer camera system and electrodes attached directly to the body, music and text samples, stage lighting, and image projections and be controlled, and thus they can interact with the dancers’ movements. Ideas and movements from the audience can also be used as “input” for artistic events.

At the moment only a few companies in the world have specialized in the use of computers and new technologies in the area of dance performance. One of the leading companies is Palindrome. Since 1995 Palindrome has been working with world-famous composers, choreographers, and dances who are exploring this emerging art form. In addition to performances, workshops, and seminars, Palindrome has developed a series of software and technical innovations for the interactive stage (e.g., EyeCon and Elektrodensystem), known as the Palindrome Performance Systems, the movements of the dancers help to control and create music, stage lighting, and projections of art. These systems are being applied worldwide by numerous performance artists, dance and theater companies, and composers.

Software artist Frieder Weiß, a member of the Palindrome Intermedia Performance Group, and his art have already been seen in the Forum Neues Musiktheater in Delusions, a multimedia performance by phase7 performing.arts.
