For the second concert of the concert series Die Reihe – Neue Musik für Stuttgart the Forum Neues Musiktheater presents the performance artist Laetitia Sonami and her latest composition—an interactive work. Her “instrument,” the so-called lady’s glove, is outfitted with sensors, and it permits as many as thirty simultaneous gestures that control sounds in real time. In the present performance the lady’s glove also controls lights and a video by Sue Costabile. The performance is inspired by Italian painting of the early Renaissance; is based on Leon Battista Alberti’s first treatise on perspective; and tries to translate its rules for reliably representing the perception of objects in space. Here perspective is represented acoustically through the use of specific “sound icons” and contrasted with abstract electronic sounds. The performer’s body is the point of view from which the perspectives and spaces are constantly shifted. Laetitia Sonami presents this concert as the conclusion to her presentation for the Max/MSP/Jitter Workshop at the FNM.
