In Fausto Romitelli’s Sound World The Forum Neues Musiktheater is presenting a concert by the ensemble Elastic3 on July 18 at 6 p.m. on the occasion of the ISCM World New Music Festival 2006. The concert begins with a piece by Fausto Romitelli, whose work is the declared focus of Elastic3. Elements of rock and pop music find their way just as naturally into Romitelli’s sound world as, say, French spectralist music. The three musicians bring experience from a wide range of fields to their improvisational work: composed New Music, improvisation, electroacoustic and electronic music, classical (Tom Pauwels) and Early Music (Eva Reiter). In their own pieces they explore new sound regions with the unusual combination of viola da gamba and Paetzold contrabass recorder, electric guitar, and live electronics. Paolo Pachini’s Elastically Pink was written shortly before his friend’s death as an ironic homage to Romitelli’s musical tics. Romitelli was scheduled to write a new piece for this unusual ensemble that had been commissioned by the Wien Modern festival, but his sudden death in June 2004 prevented it. Paolo Pachini wrote Elastically Pink instead, for the instruments planned for Romitelli’s piece. The positive experiences the trio has had in its work and the extraordinary response the concert met with convinced the three musicians to continue playing as an ensemble.
