Tristan Murail / Désintégrations
Anton Webern / Concert op. 24
Anton Webern / Five pieces for orchestra op. 10
George Lopez / Wind quintet (World Premiere)
Olga Neuwirth / Verfremdung/Entfremdung

The program for the opening concert of THE SERIES includes works by a classic composer of the twentieth century, Anton Webern (1883–1945), alongside compositions by Tristan Murail (b. 1947) and Olga Neuwirth (b. 1955) and a new work for wind quintet by George Lopez (b. 1955). This last, who claims he has never identified with the term New Music, is viewed by colleagues like Wolfgang Rihm as the epitome of the original artist per se and as “an artist of conflict who does not shy from the grand gesture.”
The Klangforum Wien was founded by Beat Furrer in 1985 as an ensemble of soloists for contemporary music, and it has since become one of the leading ensembles worldwide in the area of New Music.

DIE REIHE is a cooperation among Akademie Schloss Solitude, Forum Neues Musiktheater of the Staatsoper Stuttgart, Musik der Jahrhunderte, and the Südwestrundfunk SWR.
