Following culled from the NME - 22 May 1993 - =============================================================================== Orb 'No Fun' - official! ------------------------ The Orb, who announced a one-off Glastonbury warm-up date this week, are planning to release their version of The Stooges "No Fun" as part of a Peel Sesions LP. The band play their Glastonbury rehearsal at Bristol University on June 24. The Bristol show, where they are joined by DJ Lewis and other possible special guests, and their NME Stage headline at Glastonbury on June 26, will be followed by a full tour in late autumn. "No Fun" and "OOBE" were recorded for Peel last year and The Orb say they are keen to release both tracks, along with several new songs including "Plateau", premiered at last November's miners' benefit show at Sheffield Arena. The Orb's manager Mark Hartridge said the band and Peel were eager to do another session, provdided suitable dates could be arranged. He said: "We have wanted to release these tracks but there wasn't really enough for even a 12" single; it would have been a bit of a rip-off for the punters." The three tracks will be the only new Orb material released before late autumn, although they have started work on the follow up to last year's Number One LP "UF ORB". In recent months Alex Paterson has travelled to Berlin and Morocco to collect samples for the LP and some really good skunk respectively, and has been invited to Tokyo to DJ at electro pioneers' Yellow Magic Orchestra's first live dates for nearly a decade. Alex and Thrash are currently remixing new tracks by YMO and are also visiting Japan next month for their own headline shows. Links between The Orb and Island Records were strengthened this week with the news that Island subsidiary Axiom are to release two new Orb mixes of the Material track "Mantra". The band are in dispute with their current label Big Life. The Orb's management claim that their contract is no longer valid, an allegation refuted by the record label.
